CAUTION
So many questions have arisen about a series of
offerings on eBay that we have decided to answer
some of them here:
The above two prints have been offered as being
"signed and numbered", implying that the prints were
numbered in the traditional manner of art prints, thus
adding value to them.
This is misleading.
When these
prints were originally sold in the early 1970s a number
of them were machine-stamped on the reverse side.
These sequential numbers were meant only as a
means of registering the owners of the prints. This
practice was not applied consistently and a large
number of signed prints were unnumbered (just as
there are several numbered prints with no signatures).
The numbers were
never intended to indicate
authenticity
. They were simply a record-keeping
convenience and add no special value to the prints.
Bonestell signed many unnumbered copies.
Bonestell Space Art strongly advises contacting us
should there ever be any question regarding the
authenticity of a print or original artwork or if a
potential buyer has any questions about the artist or
his work.
